Documented 1916 New York provenance—an early 20th-century buffalo fur travel robe from the height of America’s fur trade

This example retains its original “The Peerless W Fur Robe” label and a wool-lined backing, both remarkably well-preserved. The fur remains dense and rich, with an intact hide that speaks to both its quality and careful stewardship over generations.

Produced during the height of New York’s fur trade—likely within the manufacturing networks of upstate hubs such as Gloversville—this robe remained within New York State, with documented family ownership traced to Dover Plains as early as 1916.
